ZMF – Verité

Employing an all-new Beryllium-coated PEN driver unique to ZMF and ZMF’s most complex acoustic design yet, the Verite Open Sapele gives you everything you’ve ever wanted from an open, full-sized headphone.

Verite takes the reigns as the new flagship for ZMF with an ultra-fast-sounding beryllium-coated dynamic driver. The Verite had a super effortless quality about it, projecting an almost electrostatic-like floating 3D stage. Verite a listen paired up with ZMF’s Pendant tube amplifier and dynamics were very powerful and bass was well extended, giving the headphone an overall presentation that was both neutral and very exciting.

ZMF – Verité: Quality build and accessories

The Verite open headphones feature an exotic look with their hand-crafted wooden earcups. The headphones are craft-fully CNC’d, sanded, and finished to bring out a natural shine and unblemished outer cup design. As this is a semi-open design, the Verite open adopts a concentric grill design where users can choose from a copper, rose gold, brass, black, or stainless steel plate.

ZMF headphones fill that space perfectly. The headphone cups are all unique, even when made from the same type of wood. As far as build quality and accessories go, the headphones are very well built.

The wood has almost a mirror finish to it, the pads are soft and plush, and the headband, while sturdy, has a high degree of adjustability, being bendable. The headband strap is replaceable. The cups feel extremely premium and solid. The wooden case adds to the premium feeling of the whole package, rather than another generic case or just a piece of foam.

Verite uses a stiffer, lighter, 300-ohm voice coil and an N50 (50 gauss) magnet. This combination allows the driver to project the fastest, most nimble sound we have yet been able to create.

The Verite has an optimized driver position, as the membrane is recessed and angled further within the cup than any other ZMF dynamic driver headphone. Driver placement was tested in .5mm increments to find the optimal placement and driver angle for the best sound possible.

Fit and comfortable

Adjusting the headband is quite crucial for making it comfortable. Once the headband is adjusted, the weight distribution is good and it can easily be worn for hours and hours. The pads are soft and have a large opening so the ear doesn’t touch them or the driver assembly.

All in all, the ZMF Verite Open is a very special headphone. It may not be the very last word in technical capability. But its tuning and overall extremely pleasing listening experience are what make it one of the best headphones.
