ZMF – Eikon (Camphor)
The ZMF – Eikon headphone utilizes the perfect mix of a linear mid-range and treble with a boosted sub-bass for a musically neutral tinged sound. The Eikon produces clean, fast, and engaging sound while delivering a true closed experience with 24 dB of noise isolation.
Sonically, the auteur takes the Eikon’s general downslope tuning and shifts it slightly towards neutral with the perforated Eikon pads, or brings you to what most would consider complete neutrality with the auteur pads. Regardless of your taste in sound signature, the auteur will cater to your needs with each set of earpads. Unlike many open designs, the bass extends deep and hits hard when called for.
Design and comfortable wearing
The company decided to use the same cups as in the Ori but to rework the headband. The cups’ fork attachment is made of metal half-rings that cover the primary node of the headphones at the top and are fastened with two sides in the middle. Your washer connects to the headband using thick “spokes”, moving the mount to adjust the size.
The headband is made with a metal plate inside and covered in leather. In theory, the chosen wood can affect the sound, but in practice, the effect is very small, the appropriate option, is based primarily on aesthetic preferences and based on the weight. The current wood stock for the Eikon is Camphor.
The weight, not to mention the fact that the headphones were well-distributed mass, and the deep ear cushions and padded headband, thus achieving very good wearing comfort.
Soundproofing is not 100%. The headphone has holes, though, and is tightly damped, but for most cases, insulation will be enough. It’s still not the open Cup, so the comfort levels of both models will not disturb others. Of course, because the rather bulky design is not a street solution, their main purpose is listening to the house. The wire is replaceable and uses a MiniXLR.
ZMF – Eikon (Camphor) High-Quality Audio
The Eikon features a custom ZMF Biocellulose driver. This driver delivers the world’s first open, high impedance, bio-cellulose headphone design. The Eikon conveys the legendary ZMF biocelluse sound, with 24 dB of noise isolation.
The Eikon takes an engaging musical tilt with a hint of neutrality and great extension. You won’t get bored or fatigued, but you won’t miss anything from your music, either.
Both lightweight and utilizing ZMF’s signature “double headband,” you’ll always wear the Eikon comfortably. The weight of Limited Editions will vary based on the wood offered.
Last Thoughts about ZMF – Eikon (Camphor)
An Eikon can be an image of the imagination, a dream. For years, ZMF had wanted to make wooden headphones from scratch. Finally, with the Eikon, ZMF’s first proprietary wood headphone, that dream is realized.
Starting back in 2010 with closed t50rp modifications, ZMF cut their teeth figuring out how to properly damp closed headphones. In developing the Eikon, ZMF took that knowledge and applied it to their wood cup design, creating a closed headphone that won’t make you miss your open-backed counterparts.
