Abyss – Diana Phi
The Abyss – Diana Phi headphones were launched in early 2018 as a luxury line touted as the world’s thinnest boutique headphones. It has since changed long-held perceptions of headphone physics by easily comparing to, and in many cases outperforming, the best-performing headphones. World-class sound in a compact portable package.
ABYSS has since worked toward furthering this success, producing this second higher performance ‘DIANA Phi’ version that’s ‘bigger on the inside’ by incorporating the Phi planar speakers from their flagship AB-1266 Phi CC.
The new DIANA Phi headphone has world-class dynamics, resolution, and refinement to sound never before heard in such a compact package. As with any ABYSS, she’s quite capable of playing any genre of music to an extreme level of enjoyment, limited only by the electronics and recording. The goosebump-inducing ‘you are there’ sound is to die for.
“Bigger on the Inside” best describes her huge sound, bass depth, and speed, second only to her big brother. A wide soundstage with impeccable tonal balance, and voices so real you feel they are with you. Diana Phi plays its heart out for you with every performance.
Excellent Design Using Planar Drivers
Each Diana is machined, finished, and carefully hand-assembled in New York using the finest materials, laser engraved with the signature model and serial number, Feel this headphone in your hands to appreciate the quality of Abyss. As with any Abyss design, longevity and lack of moving parts are very important traits for final sound quality to prevent squeaks and the need for repair.
This is the thinnest boutique headphone which sculpt from 1Kg of aircraft-grade aluminum. That transformed into a frame structure under 100g once the CNC machine completely removes every last bit. A high-tech hard polymer ceramic Titanium Gray finish adds style and elegance.
Large 63mm patent-pending Phi planar drivers with ultra-low mass diaphragms produce extremely fast bass impact and subtle lifelike details in the music, the back means more of a sense of space and you-are-there realism, with the positive benefit of allowing you to still hear your surroundings while on the go.
Sound Quality with Ultimate Comfort
Bigger on the Inside best describes the huge sound, bass depth, and speed. That is second only to the bigger AB-1266. You’ll experience a wide soundstage with impeccable tonal balance and voices so real you feel they are with you. Diana Phi plays her heart out for you every time.
The incredible strength and ultra-rigidity this provides are paired with softness. And breathable leather, as found in the finest of sports cars, and Italian Alcantara for ultimate comfort. Abyss Diana Phi’s Final Thoughts
Overall, the Abyss Diana Phi has a nice thick, harmonically complex sound. Particularly in its midrange, with a lot of tight detail in the highs and lows.
It has both a sense of warmth and detail, with a little bit of a sense of moderation in the highs level-wise. Its soundstage is deep and expressive and dramatic in its presentation. The Diana Phi works well with a wide variety of genres – so stay tuned!

Diana Phi was the top of the Diana family for a long time. Certainly one of the 10 best headphones in the world. There was nothing wrong with it until the Diana TC came along, which is just a tad better.
