The Noble Audio Lu Ban is a new hybrid in-ear monitor that blends natural materials with advanced driver technology. Named after the legendary Chinese master craftsman Lu Ban, this model reflects Noble’s philosophy of combining precision engineering with artisanal design. At its core lies a carefully balanced three-driver configuration that unites the organic tonal character of a wooden composite dynamic driver with the speed and resolution of modern planar technology.

Hybrid Driver Architecture

At the heart of Lu Ban is a three-driver hybrid system consisting of a 10 mm wooden composite diaphragm dynamic driver supported by two newly developed Super-Magnetic planar drivers.

The dynamic driver forms the tonal foundation of the earphone. By integrating a wooden composite into the diaphragm structure, Noble draws inspiration from traditional musical instrument design. Wood is valued for its natural resonance and tonal character, and in this implementation it contributes to bass reproduction that is deep, controlled and well textured. Sub-bass reaches confidently into the lowest registers while maintaining composure, and mid-bass remains tight and articulate without unnecessary bloom.

The midrange benefits from the harmonic richness introduced by the wooden composite structure. Vocals are presented with convincing body and presence, while acoustic instruments retain their natural decay and weight. Rather than adding artificial warmth, the driver emphasises natural tonal realism and musical flow.

Dual Super-Magnetic Planar Drivers

Complementing the dynamic driver are two Super-Magnetic planar drivers, representing a significant development beyond conventional planar implementations in IEMs.

These drivers employ an advanced magnetic circuit built around a new generation ultra-high magnetic energy neodymium iron boron material, enhanced with a precisely controlled copper element. This design improves magnetic flux stability and efficiency, enabling faster transient response and improved micro-detail retrieval.

The result is a treble presentation that extends cleanly with excellent separation and air. High frequencies remain precise without becoming harsh, and complex passages retain structure and clarity even in demanding recordings.

Together, the dynamic and planar drivers create a cohesive hybrid tuning: the wooden dynamic driver provides weight, tone and musicality, while the planar system contributes speed, transparency and technical resolution.

Cocobolo Wood Shell Design

The physical construction of Lu Ban reflects its inspiration from traditional craftsmanship. Each shell combines Cocobolo wood with a high-precision 3D-printed resin internal structure.

Cocobolo is chosen for its structural stability and distinctive grain pattern, giving every pair a subtly unique appearance. The internal resin framework ensures accurate driver placement and consistent acoustic geometry, allowing Noble to maintain precise tuning across all units.

This combination of natural material and modern manufacturing results in an earphone that is both visually distinctive and acoustically consistent.

Premium Cable and Accessories

Lu Ban is supplied with a four-strand woven high-purity OCC silver-plated cable designed to preserve signal integrity and tonal accuracy. The cable features a fibre-woven outer coating and standard 0.78 mm 2-pin connectors with clear left/right markings.

Termination is provided via a 4.4 mm copper gold-plated balanced plug, making Lu Ban an excellent match for modern high-end digital audio players and balanced headphone amplifiers.

The included accessory package contains a dedicated IEM storage case, an ear tip storage box, and nine pairs of ear tips to ensure optimal fit and acoustic performance.
