Final Audio A10000
Final Audio has done something audacious with the A10000. While most manufacturers stick to tried-and-tested materials, this Japanese outfit decided to use actual diamond for their driver diaphragm. Sounds bonkers – but it’s brilliantly executed.
Key Features
- Genuine Diamond Diaphragm – Undeformable, extremely low distortion
- CNC Stainless Housing – Côtes de Genève finish, zero resonance
- Ultra-Low Distortion – Hundredfold lower bass distortion
- New Polyurethane Surround – Molecular bonding, perfect suspension
- Screwed Construction – Serviceable, extremely robust
- Premium Cable – Silver/ePTFE, 4.4mm balanced, MMCX
Why Diamond?
Every loudspeaker driver faces the same fundamental challenge: the diaphragm needs to move fast while maintaining its shape perfectly. When bass hits hard or volumes climb, conventional materials start to buckle. They flex slightly, ring out, or resonate – and that’s where distortion creeps in.
Diamond sidesteps this problem entirely. The material is so rigid it’s virtually undeformable, yet conducts sound at incredible speed. Final doesn’t mess about with synthetic coatings either. They use genuine diamond film, grown on silicon substrate then exposed – leaving behind a gossamer-thin but practically indestructible diaphragm.
The Surround Makes All the Difference
A diamond diaphragm alone won’t cut it. It needs perfect suspension, otherwise the best membrane in the world is useless. Final developed a bespoke polyurethane surround, specifically tuned for the diamond film’s minimal mass.
Here’s where it gets clever: instead of gluing components together, Final molecularly welds the diaphragm and surround. A thermo-pneumatic process literally makes them one piece. No adhesive residue, zero manufacturing tolerances.
The voice coil got a complete overhaul too. A dual-layer construction prevents weight variations and ensures smooth, consistent movement.
What Does This Mean for Sound?
The measurements speak volumes: the A10000 achieves bass distortion figures a hundred times lower than conventional drivers. You hear this immediately. Bass doesn’t just thump – it has shape and precision.
The midrange benefits most from that crystal-clear diaphragm. Vocals take on an almost eerie three-dimensionality. You catch every breath, every subtle inflection.
It’s in the highs where the diamond truly shines. Where other drivers start falling apart on cymbal crashes or violin pizzicatos, the A10000 stays completely composed. Even the most complex passages are effortlessly resolved.
Machined from Solid
The housing comes straight from a CNC mill. A block of stainless steel gets machined until the desired shape emerges. Takes time and costs money, but eliminates every trace of cabinet resonance.
The surface bears the traditional “Côtes de Genève” pattern – a wave-like finish from Swiss watchmaking. Not only looks the business, but also breaks up internal reflections.
Thoughtful Engineering
Final ditched adhesives completely. Everything’s screwed together. Makes the A10000 not just more robust, but properly serviceable too. Refreshing approach in an age of planned obsolescence.
