Campfire Audio Andromeda 10 – Limited Damascus Launch Edition
Some products stick with you for years, and for many audio enthusiasts, the Campfire Andromeda is exactly that kind of icon. So when Campfire Audio announced the Andromeda 10, I had to take a closer look. It’s not just another release — it’s a 10th anniversary celebration, a reimagining of one of the most beloved IEMs of the last decade.
A Tribute with Symbolism
Right from the design, it’s clear this is more than just an update. The Andromeda 10 SE Launch Editions come in two striking versions:
- SE Black: black PVD stainless steel housing, black Damascus steel lid, gold screws and inlay.
- SE Gold: black PVD stainless steel housing, gold Damascus steel lid, black inlay and gold screws.
Both look like jewelry pieces — a clear nod to the Andromeda’s cult status, now elevated into something even more exclusive.
The “Power of Ten”
Under the hood, things get even more interesting. Instead of five balanced armatures per side, the Andromeda 10 features ten drivers:
- Four for the lows,
- four for the mids,
- two for the highs.
That’s a doubling of the original architecture, promising more depth, control, and a smoother, more cohesive sound. On paper, it looks like a real step forward.
New Tech Under the Hood
What fascinates me is the attention to detail. A few highlights:
- Hybrid Capacitor Crossover with a vintage ceramic capacitor for seamless driver integration.
- Noise Elimination Mid Circuit (NEMC) — designed specifically for the four mid drivers to eliminate ringing and noise.
- Tuned Acoustic Expansion Chamber (TAEC) — Campfire’s proprietary tuning chamber for improved treble extension and spatial imaging.
Yes, it’s technical, but it all boils down to one goal: making the Andromeda 10 as clean, refined, and immersive as possible.
Sound Signature: Familiar Yet Elevated
Campfire says the Andromeda 10 pays homage to the original’s sound signature — that balanced, slightly holographic character with great vocal and instrumental presence. At the same time, the new architecture should bring more resolution, dynamics, and clarity.
Personally, I’m curious to hear whether they’ve managed to preserve the soul of the original Andromeda while giving it a modern edge.
Cable & Connectors
For the first time, Campfire is moving away from MMCX and embracing 2-pin connectors, which opens up far more cable options.
The SE editions ship with a custom-made 7N OCC gold-plated copper cable — thick-gauge conductors, custom terminations, and a black-gold enamel finish. It’s not just an accessory; it feels like an essential part of the Andromeda 10 experience.
The Numbers
- Drivers: 10 BA (4 Low, 4 Mid, 2 High)
- Impedance: 8.5 Ω @ 1 kHz
- Frequency Response: 5 Hz – 20 kHz
- SPL: 94 dB @ 1 kHz (12.10 mVrms)
- THD: < 1 %
Final Thoughts
The Campfire Andromeda 10 feels less like a simple product update and more like a statement piece. It’s a celebration of ten years of innovation, crafted with premium materials and a refined driver architecture that pushes the Andromeda legacy forward.
Whether it replaces the original as the Andromeda or sits above it as a crown jewel — that remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: for collectors, longtime fans, and anyone who values the blend of craftsmanship and sonic performance, the Andromeda 10 is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Campfire history.
